   PERSONAL STATEMENT

Donald A. Campbell, M.D. came to Hickory in 1989 and has approximately 25 years of orthopedic experience. Dr. Campbell has been president of Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists for the last 4 years and is in his 5th year of service on the board of trustees at Catawba Valley Medical Center. He is also a former chief of surgery and chief of medical staff at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Campbell graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pennsylvania in 1977. He graduated medical school at the University Of Pittsburg School Of Medicine in 1981 and did his internship at Letterman Army Medical Center.

Following that, Dr. Campbell spent one year pre-residency doing orthopedics at Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia during which time developed an interest in sports medicine through close association of the program in Fort Benning with the Houston Sports Medicine Clinic, and orthopedic residency at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco. During that time, he spent 1 year doing pediatric orthopedics at Shriner’s Hospital San Francisco and 2 years at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in the second year as Chief of Orthopedics.

Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists is proud to have the only two orthopaedic surgeons in the 4-county area to be certified to perform the Oxford unicompartmental mobile bearing knee replacement. Having earned this certification, Dr. Campbell is able to offer this less invasive alternative to total knee replacement to eligible patients.
